Short Story:
Dev Anand plays a double role of two identical looking soldiers, Capt. Anand and Major Verma. Anand is in love with Mita ( Sadhna) while Verma is married to Ruma (Nanda). When Verma is presumed dead Anand has to take care of Ruma, endangering his relationship with Mita. Ruma mistakes Anand for her real husband. When Verma comes to his senses he finds himself alive and severely crippled. He finds out that Anand has taken his place in his home.
