On the night of her marriage Madhavi runs away to meet her lover only to discover that she has been backing a wrong person. Dejected, when she comes back, she finds only that everything is finished ruined and her uncle is dead. Mentally unbalanced she leaves home and arrives at the train station. To her utter surprise she meets her childhood friend Punam at the train station. Poonam tells Madhavi she is a widow and is taking her son to her inlaws place in Nainital. On the way the train meets an accident and Punam is fatally wounded. Before death she requests Madhavi to travel to Nainital with the child and present herself as Punam to the parents of her late husband, who have not so far met her. To keep the promise given to the dead friend Madhavi starts for Nainital and meets the same person Kamal who came to marry her. Madhavi's unfettered life swims in the occasion of uncertainties and atmosphere surcharged with emotions, love, hatred, and disappointments.
